Finding CALL Resource 


       Today, the teacher introduces some procedures and dimensions of evaluating a CALL resource. When evaluating a CALL resource, we should consider “operational description”, “learner fit”, and “teacher fit”. And today, we evaluate a website with these modules taken into account.

I found the website called Funbrain is not so suitable for students learning English in Taiwan.

The main reason is that most of the games are designed for training students’ reaction or problem-solving abilities. Therefore, I assume that this website is designed for enhancing children’s muti-intelligence and literacy. If a teacher wants to find an activity for children who want to learn English, he or she must spend much time searching a useful material. However, I found that there are many games related to science and mathematics. Although the website is not suitable for an English teacher, I consider the website will be a good tool for bilingual teaching because it contains lots of knowledge about a specific subject.

          All in all, I think the suitability of a CALL resource indeed should be based on the teacher’s assumption of how languages are learned.
